Heatwave conditions continued to prevail in Gangetic West Bengal today with Bankura recording the highest temperature in the state at 44.5 degrees Celsius.

Districts in Gangetic West Bengal sizzled with day temperatures hovering above 40 degrees Celsius in most places, the Met department said.

The highest day temperatures recorded in Asansol, Sriniketan and Burdwan were 42.1 degrees, 41.9 degrees and 40 degrees Celsius respectively. In Bankura, the highest temperature was 44.5 degrees, which was six degrees above normal.

Temperature in Kolkata was down by a couple of notches at 36.6 degrees. The discomfort level was, however, quite high owing to the high level of humidity.

The Met department has forecast heatwave conditions in Bankura, Birbhum, West Midnapur, Purulia and Burdwan districts in the coming few days.

The weatherman also forecast that the districts of Howrah, Hooghly, Nadia and Murshidabad districts are also likely to come under the grip of heatwave from Wednesday.
