"It is my priority to improve the relation of the Army with civilians, administration and ex-servicemen," Choudhary told PTI.

An ex-servicemen's rally was organised today at a military station in Kanchrapara, North 24-Parganas district, to create awareness about entitlements and benefits including redressal of problems.

Saying they are trying to reach people even in the remote areas to solve their problems, Choudhury regretted that ex-servicemen and the families of martyrs often face difficulties while dealing with the civilian administration.

"When ex-servicemen face difficulties we even write letters to the administration. They should get the respect they deserve for risking their lives for the country," the GoC said.

"There is a special relationship between army men, the families of martyrs and those retired. Unlike other organisations, we never forget them," he said.

The Armed Forces had declared 2012 as the 'Year of the Veterans' to commemorate and honour retired soldiers and the family members of martyrs for their contribution to the nation.

For the Army, Bengal Area provides logistics back-up of troop movement during war and relief or rescue operations.

"I will try to improve that," he said.
