Bengal government gives date to GJM for talks

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee told reporters at the state secretariat, "GJM sought time for discussion with the state government and has been granted June 14 for the purpose".

The Morcha has rejected the Justice (retd) Shyamal Sen Committee recommendation on the inclusion of additional areas of Terai and Dooars into the GTA.

The chief minister said that people of the hills and plains are brothers "and we want development of both the areas and want peace to prevail there".

Security men have strengthened their vigil in Darjeeling, Kurseong and Mirik in the Darjeeling hills to prevent any outbreak of violence in the wake of the publication of the expert committee report.

 

Personnel of the Rapid Action Force, Indian Reserve Battalion and state police are patrolling the streets in the three areas.
