The Calcutta High Court today directed the Indian Railways and the Urban Development Ministry to inform it on the proposed alignment of East West Metro Railway while observing that the West Bengal government has no say in any decision in this regard.
Justice Nadira Patherya, hearing a petition by a construction company involved in the construction of the railway seeking a stay on any proposed termination of its contract, directed the Indian Railways and Urban Development Ministry to file affidavits within three weeks and fixed the next date of hearing on September 25.
Justice Patherya, observing that the West Bengal government had transferred its stake in East West Metro to the Indian Railways in 2012, directed that the state has no say in any decision on realignment of route of the railway and that the state can act only as a facilitator.
The new underground railway system is designed to run from Salt Lake Sector V to Howrah Maidan.
There has been an ongoing tussle over the route of the under-construction railway between the state government and the railway.
Justice Patherya also directed that no action would be taken on any proposal for termination of the construction company's contract till disposal of the case.
