Getting documents attested and filing affidavits would soon be a thing of the past as the West Bengal government has decided to do away with the old practice.
"Today our cabinet has decided that from December 1, 2014, attestation and affidavit in most government work will not be required. Applicants will themselves be competent to self-attest, unless there is a specific legal requirement," Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee told reporters.
She said students will not have to get admit cards and marksheets attested as self-attestation will be sufficient.
Even for affidavits, a self-declaration would be enough unless it is legally specified.
"It will save money and unnecessary harassment of people. We are trusting people by letting self-attestation work," Banerjee said adding that they have given instructions to government departments on this.
She also announced that the cabinet has approved the appointments for 4,500 posts.
