West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankar on Saturday called on Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sunil Arora and emphasised on the significance of holding free and fair elections, officials said.
Dhankar and Arora, who is on a personal visit to the city, had an hour-long discussion at the Raj Bhawan here.
The governor complimented the CEC for successfully conducting the recently-held Lok Sabha elections, a Raj Bhawan official said.
During the meeting with the CEC, "Dhankar emphasised on the importance of holding free and fair elections as that was the essence of democracy", he said.
