Concerned by their listless performance in Ranji Trophy, Bengal is contemplating an invitational pre-season tournament on suggestions of former India skipper Sourav Ganguly.

Ganguly, who is also the chairman of the coaching committee, today proposed it on the lines of TNCA-organised Buchi Babu Tournament where various state associations are invited for a pre-season meet.

"The only concern for us is the extended monsoon in these parts. But Ganguly was keen to have something similar. 'Let there be a beginning," CAB joint secretary Subir Ganguly said today.

Ganguly discussed this with Bengal coach Ashok Malhotra and CAB chief Jagmohan Dalmiya in a meeting after Bengal's first day's play against Saurashtra in the Ranji Trophy group B league.

Acting on the former India skipper's advice, the CAB is all set to pick 20 players each for three pools of batsmen, pacers and spinners for a special training camp in January.

"He is taking personal interest and talking to former India cricketers with expertise in the three areas," the joint secretary added.
