The West Bengal potato traders body today called for a three-day strike all over the state from September 1 in protest against lower compensation to traders for rotten seized tuber.

After a core committee meeting here, the 'Poschimbango Progitisil Alu Babsayee Samity' spoksesman Lalu Mukherjere said despite several reminders, the state government awarded Rs 50 lakh as compensation for traders whose potato were dumped in godowns following seizure and became unfit for consumption.

This should have been Rs 1.5 crore but the state government did not hear the pleas of the traders, he said.

The association will go for a bigger agitation before the Pujas if the state failed to meet the demands, he added.
