"It is Bengal which has thrown up so many new talents in the national scene, from singing giants of yore to present day talents in playback. Reality shows are pointers to this fact," Yagnik said.
This is due to the love and respect for art and artistes, she said adding it was heartening that the overall benchmark to make the grade in music remains high in Bengal despite fall in standards in artistry.
Quality regional reality shows and regional versions of national ones would help in spotting more talents and keep up the supply line for playback singing, said Yagnik, who was here in connection with the launching of the Bengali version of reality show 'Sa Re Ga Ma Pa' of which she will be one of the judges.
Singer Kumar Sanu said melody has made a comeback in film music and Bengal could show the way.
"I feel melody will never lose out to other forms of music, it can never be so. If you follow the tracks in recent times you can make out melody is coming back, in Hindi tracks as well as in Bengali numbers," he said.
'Noukadubi' and 'Chitrangada' actor Jishu Sengupta, the host of the show beginning from tomorrow, said he would be happy if potential singers in the age bracket of 16 to 25 years could be inspired to sing at the national stage.
The aspiring singers have been groomed by vocalists like Subhankar Bhaskar, Partha Sarathi Desikan and would be judged by Sanu, Yagnik and Joy Sarkar.
