The West Bengal government will from now on procure relief materials from its state-run weavers' cooperative society, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said here on Thursday.
Mamata Banerjee, speaking at the Bengal Business Conclave in coastal town Digha in Purba Medinipur district, on Thursday said the initiative will benefit over 25,000 weavers in the state and create an additional 25 lakh man-days in the next three years.
"To boost cottage industries and weavers, the state government has decided that relief materials like sarees and bedsheets will henceforth be procured from our weavers' cooperative society, Tantuja," she said.
The state government will place orders for the relief materials well in advance so that weavers get time to plan their work accordingly, the chief minister added.
