Bengali film 'Dhananjoy' referred to CBFC Chairman

The CBFC regional office here has referred Bengali feature film 'Dhananjoy', named after Dhananjoy Chatterjee, hanged after found guilty of rape and murder, to CBFC Chairman's office in Mumbai.

"I was expecting an 'A' rating with few cuts but the CBFC Kolkata office has informed me the film will now be sent to the CBFC Chairman Pahlaj Nihalani's office. I was not told about the reason," the film's director Arindam Sil told PTI today.

Contacted, CBFC Kolkata official Ajoy Mhamia said, "No consensus could be reached among committee members who saw the film and it was recommended to CBFC Chairman as per usual norms."
 

Sil had earlier said, "We have made the film based on writings from a research work on the events leading to his hanging in 2004 and there after, it is a work of fiction."

Dhananjoy was hanged to death on August 14, 2004.

The film is slated to release on August 11.
