Beti Bachao scheme: Jambheshwar varsity reserves seat for girl

Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology (GJU&ST), Hisar today decided to reserve one supernumerary seat - which refers to seat over and above the seat matrix issued by the government - in all the UGC approved undergraduate and PG courses for girl students.

Admission on this seat would be granted to girl student(s) who are either only child or have no brother, the university decided in its Academic Council meeting here.

The university said the move is aimed at promoting the 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' scheme.

The Academic Council meeting of GJU&ST in its 47th meeting also decided to provide 45 days maternity leave to the married women students of the university.
 
Presiding the meeting Vice-Chancellor, Prof Tankeshwar Kumar stressed on the need for such decisions in educational institutions as an urgent step towards promoting women empowerment.

The VC urged all other institutions to come forward and take such decisions that would enable women gain education and become self-reliant.

Kumar said educational institutions should have sensitive approach towards women and their social environment.

M S Turan, Registrar of the University hailed the decision and called it a path breaking step by any university in the country for women empowerment through education.
