West Bengal Panchayat Minister Subrata Mukherjee today appreciated the State Election Commissioner Mira Pande's decision to look into the allegations of intimidation made by Opposition regarding nominations for the state's Panchayat poll.

"She (Mira Pande) has ultimately realised the truth and observed positively on the existing situation. Besides she has also said about looking into such allegations," Mukherjee said in his reaction.

Referring to the standoff on state's Panchayat poll following confrontation between the state government and SEC, Mukherjee said, "Let her now ensure that the election is arranged smoothly."

Yesterday, Pande said that the poll panel would look into allegations of intimidation made by the opposition.

"We had offered police escort to opposition candidates. They had been asked to assemble at specific places, from where they would be escorted to and from the place of filing nominations. But in most cases opposition candidates never turned up," Pande said.

"It remains to be seen whether they are at all interested in filing nominations. We are going to look into this," she said.
