After a disappointing show by the Indian men and women grapplers in the freestyle category, the country's Greco-Roman wrestlers came up with a better showing in the ongoing FILA World Championship, here today.

On Day 5 of the event, Gurpreet Singh impressed in the 75kg category after reaching the last-4 stage but finally lost out.

Gurpreet started out by beating Amanaly Atayev of Turkmenistan 3-1 in the qualification round. He then wrestled past Ricardo Gil of Spain 4-1 in the pre-quarterfinals.

In total control, Gurpreet downed Petr Novak of Czech Republic 5-0 in the last-8 clash. But he ran out of steam in the last-4 encounter, losing 1-3 against Zurabi Datunashvili of Georgia.

In the 85kg draw, Manoj Kumar lost out in the pre-quarterfinals after being outplayed by Laimutis Adomaitis of Lithuania 0-4.

India have fielded a second-string team in the ongoing tournament in view of the upcoming Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea, starting September 19.
