Manipur BJP president Kshetrimayum Bhabananda was elected Rajya Sabha member from the state today after he defeated his rival E Dwijamani of Congress by 18 votes.
Bhabananda secured 39 votes while Dwijamani managed to get 21 votes, said the Returning Officer M Ramani.
Voting for the Rajya Sabha by-poll started today morning at 9 am and concluded at 4 pm.

The bypoll to the lone Rajya Sabha seat was necessitated following the death of earlier member Haji Abdul Salam on February 28 this year.
The present BJP-led government is supported by Lok Janshakti Party, Trinamool Congress, National Peoples Party and Naga Peoples Front in the 60-member assembly.
