The Punjab government organised a state level function to commemorate the 111th birth anniversary of legendary martyr Bhagat Singh at his native village Khatkar Kalan in the district on Friday.
"The head of every Indian bows before the pious land of village Khatkar Kalan which gave birth to such great martyrs", said the Forests, Social Justice and Minorities Minister, Sadhu Singh Dharamsot.
While paying floral tributes to the great martyrs who sacrificed their lives to attain freedom for the country, the minister gave a clarion call to all sections of the society, especially the youth, to come forward to start concerted efforts to materialise the dreams of the freedom fighters.
Meanwhile, answering a query to the media persons, the minister said that in inquiry into the distribution of SC scholarships during the SAD-BJP rule, "misappropriation amounting to Rs 400 crore had surfaced" and the Congress government was committed to recover each and every penny of the amount from the errant educational institutions.
