Decrying the stone-pelting at his car by a mob at the Bhagwangad hill shrine in Ahmednagar district, Leader of Opposition in Maharashtra Legislative Council Dhananjay Munde today accused the priest of the shrine of indulging in politics.

"We expect Namdev Shastri Maharaj, who is bestowed with the title 'Nyayacharya', to do justice to all devotees, irrespective of their party affiliations," Munde said here.

"If he sees nothing beyond BJP and wants to indulge in politics, he should quit the post and join active politics," the NCP leader said. "We will soon launch a public agitation to protest politicisation of the shrine."

"I went there to offer prayers to Bhagwan Baba samadhi (tomb) after becoming the Leader of Opposition. I have been going there for many years but this is the first time I saw that the shrine has been politicised," he said.

"BJP is indulging in politics through Namdev Shastri," alleged Munde, who left the saffron party after falling out with his uncle, the late Gopinath Munde, some years ago. "He should let me know what wrong I have done to deserve such a treatment."

The shrine is currently celebrating a golden jubilee, and a grand function had been organised on Tuesday, which was attended by many senior political leaders from the state.

"I was welcomed all along the route, except near the temple," Munde said, alleging that the protest was a pre-planned one.
