Bhagwat to give away Vedic education awards on Thursday

RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat will on Thursday give away awards instituted in memory of former Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) chief Ashok Singhal to the best student, teacher and school for promoting the Vedic education.

The ceremony for the first edition of the "Bharatama Ashok Ji Singhal Vedic Education Awards" to encourage and promote Vedic Studies across India will be held in Delhi.

The Singhal Foundation said there were a number of charities supporting the Vedic education at regional or local levels, but there was no award at the national level.

"We decided to institute the annual award to encourage more and more schools, teachers and students to take up the study of the Vedas and propagate them for the good of society," the foundation said in a statement.
 

The winning student will get a cash prize of Rs 3 lakh, while the teacher and the school will get an amount of Rs 5 lakh and Rs 7 lakh respectively.
