Floodwaters have cut off Bhamragadh tehsil from other parts of Gadchiroli district in eastern Maharashtra, an official said on Tuesday.

The district is witnessing heavy rainfall for the last two days, and Alapalli-Bhamragadh road is still closed for traffic due to floods, said Krishna Reddy, district disaster management officer.

Bhamragadh is still disconnected from other parts of the district but the disaster management cell is in touch with its tehslidar through a satellite connection, Reddy added.

Around 300 people in the tehsil have been shifted to safer places, he said.

Steps are being taken to shift pregnant women in remote areas to hospitals, he said.
