An IAS officer of 1979 batch from Tamil Nadu cadre, 58- year-old Machendranathan will be the Adviser of the civil aviation ministry at a time when the sector is witnessing crises.
He took over from Bhushan, whose stint as head of Director General of Civil Aviation, was put to an abrupt end by Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh, who brought in Prashant Sukul, a joint secretary Civil Aviation Ministry, in his place. Fifty-seven-year-old Bhushan is an IAS officer of 1979 batch from Kerala cadre.
Machendranathan came on central deputation in May 2010 and was posted in the Steel Ministry. He had served as Transport Commissioner and Chairman of Tamil Nadu Electricity Board.
The transfers were cleared by Appointments Committee of Cabinet (ACC) headed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
The ACC also cleared Bhushan's transfer to steel ministry as Financial Adviser.
In another appointment, Director General of Supplies and Disposal A K Mangotra, an IAS officer of 1978 batch from Manipur cadre, was appointed as Secretary (Border Management) in the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The post had been lying vacant after the retirement of Anwar Ehsan Ahmed in May.
