Bharatiya Janta Yuva Morcha chief Anurag Thakur today criticised Congress for not being serious about the nation and said the 'Bharat Nirman' campaign is a "gimmick" to cover up its inefficiencies.

"The Bharat Nirman campaign is a shameful gimmick to cover up its years of corruption, economic and disaster relief mismanagement and laxity of national security matters. I feel that Congress is not serious about the nation," Thakur said.

The Hamirpur MP also criticised AICC President Sonia Gandhi for reportedly delaying the departure of flood relief material to Uttarakhand till Rahul returned from abroad.

"While on one hand the Congress President delayed the departure of flood relief material loaded in trucks so as to allow her son to return to India..., on the other hand the prompt response and selfless sacrifice of the Army was commendable.

Thakur said the nation deserves to know where Rahul "vanishes" every time the nation is faced with a crisis.

He said it was a "pity" state of affairs since both the central and state governments are under Congress rule and they remain oblivious to the tragic situation on the ground.

Thakur also reiterated BJP's demand that a national calamity be declared in Uttarakhand.

Referring to the terrorist attack on army jawans in Jammu and Kashmir, Thakur said, "Yesterday's attack on army is an attack on the country for which the UPA government at the Centre and Omar Abdullah government are equally responsible.

"The matter is not of only external security, but it is a matter of internal security too. Terrible problem of internal security has been created by UPA government," he claimed.
