Swiss national carrier SWISS has appointed Ashwin Bhat as the new head of its air freighter unit, Swiss WorldCargo.

Bhatt, who is currently head of the global area management at the cargo division of the airline, would assume the charge on October 1, a release said here.

He succeeds Oliver Evans, who has decided to step down, after serving Swiss WorldCargo for around 13 years, the release said.

"Ashwin Bhat is a proven airfreight specialist. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with him. I also offer Oliver Evans our sincere thanks, on behalf of our board of directors and our entire management board, for his own exceptional commitment and for the outstanding work and performance of his cargo team over the past few years," SWISS chief executive Harry Hohmeister said.

An old hand at SWISS, Bhat had moved to Swiss WorldCargo in 2002 and after serving in various capacities in pricing, revenue management and controlling divisions, he was appointed head of area management for Asia, Middle East and Africa in 2010.
