Accusing the Congress government of meting out step-motherly treatment to opposition MLAs by not inviting them to a development review meeting, BJP said it went against democratic norms and would only put hurdles in the path of Uttarakhand's progress.
Taking exception to Chief Minister Harish Rawat not inviting BJP MLA from Didihat to a meeting convened on December 29 to review development works in his constituency, Leader of Opposition in state Assembly Ajay Bhatt said it was a deliberate act of omission which did not augur well for the state's development.
In a letter to Rawat yesterday, Bhatt questioned the reasons for not inviting BJP MLA Bishan Singh Chufal to the meeting despite the fact that Congress MLAs representing two other constituencies, namely Someshwar and Pithoragarh, which were under review, had been invited.

If area MLAs are not invited to meetings convened to assess development works in their constituencies true picture of the state of affairs in their respective areas will not emerge, Bhatt said.
