Bhattiyat skips R-day as a mark of respect to deceased soldier

The body of Lieutenant Rahul Sharma was cremated with full military and state honour at his hometown Chowari, the sub-divisional headquarter town of Bhattiyat last evening with local people bidding a tearful adieu to the departed soul.

The Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Chowari Ashwani Kumar said that besides the gathering of local public, army Major K P Singh and the local MLA Vikram Singh Jaryal also attended the funeral of the deceased.

The SDM said that body of the deceased was brought from Port Blair by air to Delhi and then by road to Chowari.

All the programme and celebrations to mark the 64th Republic Day were cancelled as a mark of respect to the deceased, the SDM said.
