Bhilai Steel Plant, the flagship unit of the state-run steel maker SAIL, saved Rs 364 crore in 2013-14 on various energy conservation initiatives.

"Energy conservation initiatives at SAIL's Bhilai Steel Plant have led to a saving of Rs 364 crore during the fiscal year 2013-14," Steel Authority of India Ltd said in a release today.

This has helped the unit bag National Energy Conservation Award 2014 in the integrated steel sector, it added.

The unit, which has over 4 million tonnes per annum hot metal production capacity, achieved 5% saving in thermal energy consumption and 2% in electrical energy consumption over 2012-13.

"This has been possible due to concerted efforts by all departments of BSP to reduce energy consumption by undertaking energy saving schemes as well as minimising wastage and judicious distribution of available fuel resources," it said.

The National Energy Conservation Award is the highest national level award for energy conservation. The marks are awarded on the basis of energy savings year on year.
