Maharashtra today reported extremes of temperature with Bhira village in Raigad again recording the highest maximum temperature and Ahmednagar recording the lowest minimum temperature.

Bhira was in news last month when it had recorded an unprecedented 46.5 degrees Celsius maximum temperature.

Both Bhira and Ahmednagar reported significant departure from their normal temperature today.

IMD data showed that Bhira recorded highest maximum temperature of 44.5 degrees Celsius in the state today, a departure of 5.3 degrees from the area's normal.

No other area in Maharashtra has shown such a sudden rise in temperature, IMD sources said.

Ahmednagar in central Maharashtra reported maximum temperature of 42.2 degrees Celsius with a departure of 2.9 degrees from its normal, while the minimum temperature there was the lowest in the state at 15.5 degrees Celsius, a departure of 5.7 degrees from normal.

Jalgaon recorded maximum fall in minimum temperature at 17.6 degrees Celsius, 6.5 degrees less than its normal temperature during this period. The maximum temperature in Jalgaon today was 42.4 degrees Celsius.

"Sourashtra region of Gujarat is witnessing a severe heat wave. The anti-cyclonic conditions developed over there are pushing hot winds towards Maharashtra. Due to these winds the day temperature is remaining on higher side whereas low moisture in the air and water content in the soil is resulting in sudden drop in night temperature. Below-normal drop in night temperature is being observed in most of the state," said Sunitha Devi, director, IMD Pune.

The exception was Konkan region along with neighbouring Goa.

Maximum and minimum temperature in Mumbai were 35 degrees Celsius and 27 degrees Celsius, respectively.

Ahmednagar, Jalgaon, Nashik, Parbhani, Nanded, Akola, Nagpur and Wardha regions reported a difference of more than 20 degrees in maximum and minimum temperature.

Nagpur recorded maximum and minimum temperature of 42 and 19.5 degrees Celsius.
