A panther, which strayed into an office of the central excise department and then moved to a godown in Bhiwadi town of Alwar district, was caught after a five-hour long rescue operation.

Panic stricken tax officials at the central excise office ran for life inside the office campus and made calls to the police and forest department after the panther, a male aged 8-9 years, walked in.

But fortunately no one was injured and the big cat moved into a nearby godown. Forest officials rushed to the spot and after a five-hour long rescue operation, the animal was caught.

The panther was tranquilised and taken from Bhiwadi to Sariska, said Alwar DFO Shalabh Kumar.

Further action on his rehabilitation will be taken after examination, he said.

On Tuesday, a panther had entered into an under- construction shopping complex in the Sikar district of Rajasthan.

It was later tranquilised by a forest department team and released in the forest area in Patan in Sikar district.
