Bhopal builder duped into 'donating' Rs 75,000; foreigner held

With the arrest of one South African national here, Thane Police today claimed to have bust a racket involving foreigners, who cheated people into donating money for the poor and needy.

According to API Subash G Kale of Naupada police station, South African national Goam Williams was arrested here last night after a builder from Bhopal Sayyed Isaz Dastagir lodged a complaint of cheating against him and his two associates.

While Williams, who resides in Bangalore, has been arrested, police is on the look out for two of his aides --Maria Karman Goatz-Thomas and Michel Jepe Canlon.

The trio had duped Dastagir into 'donating' Rs 75,000 into the account and had asked him come down to Navi Mumbai to get the money parcel cleared from the Customs by paying an additional Rs 40,000.
 

When the 60-year-old builder reached Mumbai, he realised the fraud and approached the Naupada police.

Police have charged all the three accused under sections 420 rw 34 of the IPC and also 66(d) of the IT Act.
