The Bihar Human Rights Commission today directed the state government to terminate the services of a doctor for a faulty operation performed on a woman.
The BHRC also asked the state government to enforce an effective ban on gynaecological practice and surgery by the doctor, Dr Ranjit Kumar, an MS in general surgery, and posted at the Primary Health Centre at Bakhtiyarpur in Patna district.
The Commission also directed the state government to conduct a speedy trial of the case of medical negligence by the doctor and pay Rs 1 lakh in compensation to Shaila Devi (58), the patient, to be recovered from the doctor, according to BHRC member Neelmani.

"Shaila's husband Ram Narayan Singh petitioned BHRC and we took it very seriously and asked Patna Senior SP for more information. The SSP informed that an FIR in this case, as well as, another case of death of a woman due to negligence had been filed against the doctor and his associates in 2011," said Neelmani.
The copy of the BHRC order has been forwarded to the Registrar General of Patna High Court, Principal Secretary of Health Department and the SSP for information and implementation.
