Several Benaras Hindu University students today clashed with security guards and resorted to brick-batting after a hostel inmate was allegedly beaten by them over the issue of parking of motorcycle near Sir Sunderlal Hospital on the campus.

Scuffle broke out between hostel inmates and security guards after a student, Sunil, was allegedly thrashed by them following a heated argument when he was prevented from parking his motorcycle near the hospital gates while taking a patient along with him to the hospital, officials said.

As soon the news of a hostel inmate being thrashed reached other students, a large number of them from Ruiya hostel went on rampage, vandalising some vehicles and resorting to brick batting, they said, adding they also thrashed varsity security guards.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Nitin Tiwari along with a large number of police force, rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.

Tiwari held talks with students, who sat on dharna demanding action against the guilty security guards.

Tiwari assured students that action will be taken against those taking law into their hands for beating up a student for a minor issue.

An FIR was registered under relevant sections of IPC against 28, three named and 25 unnamed, people on the complaint of a BHU student, Station Officer of Lanka Police station, Sanjeev Mishra said.
