Bhutanese woman, man held with 12 kg gold

A Bhutanese national and a man were today arrested with 12 kg of gold, worth about Rs 4 crore, at Kathgodam near Haldwani here, the police said.

Naresh Raayapa, a resident of Dharchula, and Lopzeng Wengmo, a woman from Bhutan, were caught by joint team of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence and the state revenue department which had been tracking suspicious activities of these two for the past 15-20 days, they said.

A case under relevant sections of the Customs Act was registered against the accused, the police said.

The seized gold bricks, each weighing one kg, are estimated to be worth around Rs 4 crore, SHO of Mallital police station, Vipin Pant said.
 

It is suspected that the accused have links with some international gang, the officer said, adding the accused will be presented in court tomorrow.
