The Bible has been translated into Maundo, the language of the Mal Paharia tribe.

Titled 'Mal Paharia New Testament', the book was released by the Northern Evangelical Lutheran (NEL) Church.

"It was the first translated version of the holy book in the Maundo language," NEL Church's Banderjori moderator Shivlal Soren said releasing the book here yesterday.

The Bible Society of India, Bangalore has published the book, which was translated mainly by Ram Chandra Singh.

Singh, a resident of Fitkoria village under Rajbandh panchayat in Dumka, said his parents were Hindus but he was converted to Christianity in 1985.

It took 10 years for him to complete the translation.
