Customs sleuths at the international airport in Kozhikode have foiled a bid to smuggle gold weighing 1 kg, concealed in a nebuliser by a "professional smuggler" who arrived from Dubai.

A search of his baggage on suspicion led to the seizure of 24 carat gold hidden inside a nebulizer, in the form of 38 silver coated plates, Customs Commissioner Sumit Kumar said here yesterday.

He said the seized silver coated gold plates totally weighing 1,008 grams was worth Rs 31 lakhs.

The passenger, a professional smuggler from Dubai, was arrested and further investigation is in progress, he added.
