Bid to smuggle 2,400 liquor bottles foiled in Kathua

The Excise and commercial taxes department today foiled an attempt to smuggle large quantity of illicit liquor in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir.

During the search of a truck that was supposedly carrying household items at the Lakhanpur toll plaza, 2,400 bottles of Indian made foreign liquor were recovered from it, an official of the department said.

"200 cartons containing 2,400 bottles of Indian made foreign liquor were received from the truck that was supposedly carrying household goods," the official said.

He said that two people including the driver of the vehicle identified as Ajay Kumar and his accomplice Sanjay Singh have been taken into custody and the truck along with the liquor and both the accused have been handed over to the Excise and Taxation Officer, Kathua Range for proceeding further under the provisions of Excise Act.
