Bieber, Gomez land top Teen Choice Awards nominations

Former lovers Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez and former One Direction star Zayn Malik will be the stars to beat at the 2016 Teen Choice Awards after landing three nominations each.

The "Baby" hitmaker scored nods for Choice Male Artist, Choice Song (Sorry) and Choice Male Hottie in the first wave of nominations, while his ex-girlfriend earned similar recognition for Choice Female Artist, Choice Song (Hands To Myself) and Choice Female Hottie.

Bieber will be up against Malik, who is also nominated in the same three categories, while Gomez will be in competition with close friend Demi Lovato, who also earned the same nods.
 

Other artists nominated in the music categories include Taylor Swift, Nick Jonas, Beyonce, Ariana Grande, and Nick Jonas.

In the movie section, superhero films "Captain America: Civil War" and "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" are the frontrunners with four nominations apiece, while in the TV category, teen drama "Pretty Little Liars" leads the charge with six nominations for Choice TV Show: Drama, Choice TV Actor: Drama (Ian Harding, Keegan Allen, and Tyler Blackburn), and Choice TV Actress: Drama (Ashley Benson and Troian Bellisario).

The "Vampire Diaries" scores five nods, with stars Ian Somerhalder, Paul Wesley, Kat Graham, and Candice King each grabbing mentions.

Other TV shows in the running for prizes include "Empire", "Gotham", "The Flash", and "Scream Queens".

The winners will be announced on August 14.
