The Indian shooters have won an unprecedented 37 medals including nine gold -- eight of which were clinched in the junior and youth categories, during the sixth Air Gun Shooting Championship, which concluded in Tehran today.

The Indians have also won 12 silver and 16 bronze medals.

Kapil Kumar (10m Air Pistol Jr. Men), Samarjit Singh ((10M Air Pistol Youth Men), Malaika Goel (10M Air Pistol Youth Women) and Sanjeev Rajput (50M Rifle Prone Men) won individual gold medals. Rajput had four podium finishes.

India had sent a big contingent of 65 shooters in senior, junior and youth category.

"This is the most successful competition from Indian perspective and a very good exposure especially to juniors and youth category shooters. It is pertinent to note that three out of four individual gold medals were won by juniors and youth category shooters," the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) said in a statement today.
