Asking for completion of infrastructure work in time, Bihar Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi today said that failure to meet the deadline not only harmed the state financially, but also deprived people of the benefits of the projects.
"If projects are not completed in time, their estimates shoot up two to three times affecting the economy of the state, thus depriving the people of their benefits. It is seen that contractors are unable to complete one project in time, but take four or five more in their hands," Manjhi said.
The Chief Minister was speaking while inaugurating 23 Community Health Centres that had been upgraded from Primary Health Centres, and food grain storage godowns having a capacity of 500 metric tonnes each, constructed by Bihar State Building Construction Corporation Limited (BSBCCL).
Praising BSBCCL, Manjhi said till a few years ago our corporations were running under losses, but now they are making profits. This shows if we work dedicatedly, we will not suffer losses.
"Once Bihar did not have storage capacity of even 4 lakh metric tonnes, but now we have storage capacity of 9 lakh metric tonnes. Good storage capacity is necessary for food security in the state," added Manjhi.
The Chief Minister also said he will review development, health services and food security projects on August 29 and give directions for their completion on time.
Speaking on the occasion Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Shyam Rajak said the food grain storage capacity in the state will go up to 16 lakh metric tonnes by December this year.
The Building Construction Department and BSBCCL are currently working on infrastructure projects worth Rs 39,000 crore belonging to different departments in the state.
