The Congress in Bihar today said it will observe the first anniversary of demonitisation on November 8 'kala divas' (black day) as per the direction of AICC, party sources said.

A party release said here that BPCC acting president Kaukab Qadri has appointed observers in every district unit to ensure the success of the programme.

"The Kala Diwas programme will include rallies and demonstrations at all district headquarters during the day followed by candle light marches in the evening in memory of those who lost their lives due to hardships suffered in the aftermath of demonetisation," it added.

Several other opposition parties in the country, including the main opposition RJD in Bihar, have decided to hold rallies or stage protests against demonetisation on the day.

However, the BJP has maintained that the drive had proved to be effective in curbing black money and announced that it would observe the day as "Kala Dhan VirodhI Diwas" (anti-black money day).
