Bihar education official caught while accepting bribe

An education department official in Bihar was today caught by vigilance sleuths while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 65,000 in East Champaran district, a vigilance official said.

Acting on a tip-off, a vigilance team arrested Block Education Officer Binda Ram, posted in Pakdidayal block of the district, against whom a middle school teacher Krishna Dev Ram had lodged a complaint, SP Vigilance Shiv Kumar Jha said.

The teacher had alleged that payment of his seven months' salary was due and the BEO had demanded the sum for clearing his arrears, the SP said adding that the arrested official has been taken to Patna where he would be produced before a designated court.
