A move is afoot to set up chapters of the Bihar Foundation, a forum which aims at bringing together the Bihari diaspora abroad, in far-off countries like Mauritius, Fiji and Guyana.

At a meeting of the Foundation here today, its Chairman and Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar Sushil Modi said "at present there are chapters of the Bihar Foundation in as many as 12 countries, including Hong Kong, New Zealand and Singapore".

"We must now have chapters in Mauritius, Fiji and Guyana where the size of the Bihari diaspora is huge. This will enable people with roots in the state .. to keep abreast with the activities back home", Modi was quoted as saying in a release.

Modi also issued instructions for holding programmes of the Foundation, which was set up in 2007, in various cities of the country by June, 2018 wherein non-resident Biharis would be provided with a chance to participate.

He said such programmes should be held in all cities where chapters of the diaspora are functional like Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Nagpur and Varanasi.

Stating that more than four lakh people are regularly perusing through social media the e-magazines and e-newsletters brought out by the Bihar Foundation, he stressed on the need for uploading videos and photographs which could apprise the non-resident Biharis about the work done by Bihar government.

The Bihar Foundation describes itself as an independent body formed by the Department of Industries, Government of Bihar seeking to reach out to non-resident Biharis across the globe and create a bond among them and develop a unique and positive brand of the state and leverage business that may accrue out of such bonding and branding.
