Setting off the centenary celebrations of Mahatma Gandhi's Champaran Satyagraha in 1917, Bihar Governor Ramnath Kovind today inaugurated the Satyagraha Shatabdi Park at the district headquarter town of East Champaran district.
He also unveiled a bust of Mahatma Gandhi on the occasion.
The Park has been constructed by the Urban Development and Housing department at a cost of Rs two crore to commemorate the Champaran Satyagraha launched by Mahatma Gandhi a century back.

Dwelling at length on the freedom movement, the Governor said the Champaran Satyagraha was a momentous event in the journey of freedom movement as it awakened the people to take plunge in the agitation under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi on his ideals of non-violence and non-cooperation.
Kovind asked the youth to take responsibility to secure the present and future of the country by eradicating vices like casteism, communalism, regionalism and terrorism so that the country becomes a strong nation to fulfil aspirations of Mahatma Gandhi.
