Both Houses of the Bihar Legislature were adjourned sine die today as its 178th session concluded today amidst speeches by Bihar Legislative Assembly Speaker Uday Narayan Chaudhary and Bihar Legislative Council Chairman Awadhesh Narayan Singh.

Much bonhomie was witnessed between legislators belonging to the ruling JD (U), opposition BJP and other parties.

Declaring the Bihar Legislative Assembly "adjourned sine die", its Speaker Uday Narayan Chaudhary said, "This was an important session having five sittings. We received 673 questions of which 446 were accepted. Among the accepted ones 11 were short-notice questions, 319 were Starred and 116 were Unstarred questions."

"Of the accepted 446 questions 20 were answered, while questions-answers for 38 were laid down on the House table. Members also raised several issues of public welfare during the Zero Hour. The session saw 78 call-attention notices of which eight were accepted for statements, written replies were sent for 62, while eight others were not accepted," Chaudhary added.

Speaking on the occasion in the Assembly, Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi also threw light on the number of questions received in the House and extended his greetings to the members.

"We are perhaps meeting for the last time in 2014 so on the behalf of the state government I extend New Year greetings to the Speaker and all the members of the House," Manjhi said.

Though it was a short session, the legislature could not function on three days due to adjournment over condolences and vociferous opposition from BJP over issues like deteriorating law and order and medicine scam.

Tributes were paid to departed members of both the Houses, as well as, the Peshawar massacre by terrorists.

One Legislative Bill allowed by the President and six others allowed by the Governor were tabled in the Assembly and the Council both.
