A senior minister in the Nitish Kumar government today came down heavily on Prime Minister Narendra Modi for finding flaw with the chief minister's DNA describing the remark as an insult to people of Bihar, who he said were "proud of their gene pool as well as leadership of the state".

"PM Modi has questioned blood of the Biharis by making a snide remark that there is something wrong in the DNA of the chief minister which amounts to insult of the people of Bihar," Bihar Water Resources Department (WRD) Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary said in a statement.

Apparently finding a trend in vilification of the people of Bihar by BJP leaders, Chaudhary noted that Union Minister Nitin Gadkari had also questioned the DNA of Biharis on prevalence of caste system here.

"What do the BJP leaders want to achieve by making derogatory remarks against Bihar and its people?" the WRD Minister, who also holds additional charge of agriculture and public relations departments, asked.

Asserting that Kumar has taken Bihar to development path and helped it surpass growth rate of states like Gujarat and Maharashtra, he said, "While we feel proud of our leadership and DNA of the Biharis, the BJP has become desolate at the prospect of drubbing in assembly polls due later this year.
