Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) MP from Bihar Ramakishore Singh, an accused in abduction of a petrol pump owner and businessman of Chhattisgarh in 2001, today surrendered before a court in the Durg district.
The lawmaker, a former MLA of Bihar, was later sent in police custody.
Ramakishore Singh, alias Rama Singh, wanted in connection with the abduction of businessman Jaichand Vaidya, surrendered before the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Sanghpushpa Bhatpahari, Durg Additional Superintendent of Police Rajesh Agrawal told PTI.
"The court sent him to seven-day police remand," he added.
The MP from Bihar's Vaishali Lok Sabha seat was declared an "absconder" in the kidnapping case of Vaidya, who owned a petrol pump in Durg.
The abduction took place on May 29, 2001. An FIR was later lodged at Kumhari police station of the district.
Vaidya, who was taken to Bihar, was released after a 45-day captivity on payment of a ransom of Rs 25 lakh, he said.
The vehicle used in the crime allegedly belonged to the Parliamentarian.
The police later filed a chargesheet against over a dozen accused, including Rama Singh, who was then an MLA.
One of the key accused in the case, Upendra Singh, was arrested two years after the incident, the ASP added.
In the past, police had made several attempts to arrest Rama Singh but could not get success.
Last month, the Supreme Court directed Rama Singh to appear before the lower court, Agrawal said.
After trial, eight accused were awarded life imprisonment in the case by the lower court, which acquitted two others. Three other accused are still absconding, he added.
