Bihar STF busts mini-gun factory in Howrah, arrests 5 persons

The Special Task Force (STF) of Bihar Police busted a mini-gun factory in West Bengal's Howrah district today and arrested five persons along with arms and ammunition, a senior police officer said.

Bihar Police's IG (Operations) Amit Kumar said the arrested arms manufacturers and suppliers have been identified as Mohammad Islam of Kora Maidan, Akhtar, Asif, Imam and Sonu of Qasim Bazar area of Munger district. An FIR has been lodged at Bagnan police station in this connection.

Altogether 47 sophisticated pistols, 55 pistol barrels, a large number of pistol components, lathe machine, drills and several equipments were seized during the operation, the police said.
 

"We had been gathering intelligence about them for quite some time and launched the operation today at Howrah Junction. One of the criminals was nabbed at the railway station itself in the morning with 30 pistols," said Kumar.

The arrested person led the STF commandos to the mini-gun factory at West Para, where his other accomplices were nabbed. The remaining weapons were seized there.

Police officials said that the case has been handed over to West Bengal Police and they will conduct further investigations. The arrested persons would be taken on remand and brought to Munger and Patna if needed.
