The Bihar government today decided to set-up a 'State Cancer Institute' at a cost of Rs 120 crore at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) here.
The state cabinet today approved the signing of a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Centre, Bihar government and the IGIMS to set up the facility under the National Programme for Prevention and Control of Cancer, Diabetes, CVD and Stroke (NPCDCS).
Informing about the decision, Principal Secretary (Cabinet Department) B Pradhan said, "The Centre and the state government will bear the cost in the ratio of 75:25. It will be established at IGIMS, so it will be the third party of the MoU."
NPCDCS was envisaged during the 12th five year plan (2012-17) to provide support to state government to set up cancer institutes and strengthening, as well as, enhancing facilities for diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, research, training, prevention and control of the dreaded disease.
Cabinet sources said the state government is gearing up to get the proposed institute up and running before the 12th five-year plan period ends.
The state cabinet also approved construction of 40 grade-I veterinary hospitals at a cost of Rs 23.40 crore. These will be a part of the 64 such hospitals approved for Bihar under National Agriculture Development Scheme of NABARD.
