"World Bank has in-principal agreed to provide loan for construction of the gram panchayat buildings," he said at the training programme for the panchayati raj representatives here.
These buildings would be called panchayat sarkar bhawan and will house the offices of various representatives of the panchayats, he said.
It has been felt that there was a need for permanent building of the gram panchayats to house the offices of mukhiyas, panchayat secretaries and other representatives, he said, adding that the proposed buildings will function as the secretariat of the panchayats.
The state government has arranged funds for construction of about 1500 buildings of gram panchayat out of which the 13th Finance Commission has given consent to provide funds for construction of 1000 such buildings, he said.
In all, panchayat sarkar bhawans will be constructed at 8422 gram panchayats at an estimated cost of Rs 82 lakh each, Kumar said.
Once the gram panchayat buildings are ready for use, the meetings of gram sabha will take place regularly, he said.
The shortage of panchayat secretaries too will be addressed and adequate funds will be provided by the state government, he said.
