The state government will write to the Centre with a request to maintain status quo on the NABARD interest rate at six per cent as it has put a burden on the state exchequer with the hike of the interest rate to eight per cent, he told reporters at the sidelines of his 'Janata Darbar.'

Modi said that the NABARD was set up with a view to provide loan for rural infrastructure development at reasonable interest rate to the states and the objective will be defeated if the lending agency was to charge high interest rate.
