"Once Ganga was very wide in Patna but now it has shrunk and a 'diyara' (an island of sand) has emerged in the middle of the river," he told reporters after inaugurating a kite festival on the occasion of Makar Sankranti on the bank of Ganga here.

He, however, expressed happiness that the diyara (island of sand) has been developed as tourism potential by the state government.

With Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi by his side, the Chief Minister tried his hands at flying kites on the occasion.

State Tourism Minister Sunil Kumar Pintu, food and consumer protection minister Shyam Rajak and HRD minister P K Shahi were also present on the occasion.

Many people, including those from abroad, flew kites with the Chief Minister much to the delight of the citizens.
