Bijnor municipal council has found a place among the four civic bodies of Uttar Pradesh which have been chosen for the Centre's ambitious 'Clean Ganga Mission'.

The other three civic bodies which have been included in the project are Mirzapur, Unnao and Ram Nagar in Varanasi.

Bijnor is situated on the left bank of the Ganga and the dirty and unclean water which is discharged into the river will be recycled, while the drainage system will be improved and sewerage will be introduced as part of the project, an official said.

Indra Pal Singh, the local Executive Officer of the project, said garbage and other waste will be hygienically disposed off through a plant and the municipal council area will be made pollution free.

Afforestation will also be undertaken under the project, he said.

The executive officers and other authorities of the four municipal bodies have been asked to start working in this direction, Singh said, adding that an expert team of this central project will visit Bijnor soon.

Cleaning of river Ganga and its tributaries is being undertaken by the Union Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation under the 'Namami Gange programme'.
